New works
August 31- September 4, 2026
Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, Deer Isle, ME
Haystack Mountain School of Crafts is pleased to invite you to join us for New Works, a short residency program at the School open by invitation exclusively to former program faculty and visiting artists. The residency is an opportunity for artists to develop new ideas, engage with peers, and connect with Haystack, free from teaching requirements or program expectations.
During this short residency, I worked in the ceramic studio to continue researching the use of gelatin molds I had brought with me. Gelatin is hygroscopic, meaning it attracts and absorbs moisture from its surroundings. I tested casting porcelain slip into the molds, and the results worked beautifully. These molds are nontoxic, can accommodate undercuts, and can be remelted and recast into new molds. I’m excited by the possibilities of this process as an alternative to conventional casting methods that rely on toxic materials and carry a significant environmental burden.
More to come on this….
